Before you dial
- Say where you are first: street, landmark or the address on your hotel card. Then what happened and how many people.
- In the EU and most of Europe, 112 works from any mobile, free. 911 covers North America and much of Latin America. Many phones pass 112 and 911 on to the local line elsewhere, but don't count on it.
- Stay on the line until they hang up. If you can't speak the language, say "English" and wait, or ask a bystander.
- Keep your health card and hotel address ready to show.
