Safety

  • Traffic drives on the left; Trinidad's traffic is heavy at rush hours.
  • Crime is higher in parts of Port of Spain and other areas of Trinidad: follow local advice, avoid walking at night and use trusted transport. States of emergency are sometimes declared.
  • Carnival crowds: carry little, keep a phone on a strap and stay with your band or group.
  • Sun and sea: the sun is strong all year; watch for currents and rip tides on unpatrolled beaches, and swim where locals swim.
