continent

Europe

Pick one rail corridor or two neighbouring countries for 10–14 nights; Europe punishes daily hotel changes more than long train rides.

Not field-verified

Europe is dense: most first trips fail by adding a capital every two days. Trains beat flights city-centre to city-centre under about four hours, luggage rules are loose, and the real traps are Sunday and August closures, reservation-only trains in summer, and border rules that changed recently for non-EU visitors. Choose a corridor, sleep 3+ nights per base.

Friction everywhere

  • Schengen: short stays are limited to 90 days in any 180; non-EU visitors are registered by the EU Entry/Exit System at the border, and a pre-travel authorisation (ETIAS) is being introduced — check the official EU sites.
  • The UK is outside Schengen and has its own electronic travel authorisation (ETA) for many visitors.
  • Sunday and August closures in many towns; book summer high-speed and sleeper seats early.
  • Pickpocketing on metros and at major sights is the most common trip-breaker.
