  • Serbia is outside the EU and Schengen area and sets its own entry rules; check the official requirements for your passport.
  • Foreign visitors must be registered with the police after arrival; hotels do it, but in private rentals ask your host to confirm.
  • Serbia does not accept entry into Kosovo from a third country as entry into Serbia. If you plan to cross between Kosovo and Serbia, check your government's advice for both before you book.

Etiquette

  • Avoid political arguments about Kosovo, the 1990s wars or NATO; listen rather than debate.
  • Cyrillic and Latin scripts are both used; either is fine for writing.
  • Dress modestly in Orthodox churches and monasteries.

  • Taxis: book through an app or use official stands; airport touts overcharge.
  • Large demonstrations occur in Belgrade and other cities; avoid them and follow local news.
  • Summer heat on the plains can be intense; plan shade and water.
  • Check your government's advice before visiting areas near the Kosovo boundary.
  • Check your own government's travel advice and the local emergency numbers before you go.
