Treat Andorra as a mountain add-on from Barcelona or Toulouse: 1–2 nights for hiking or duty-free shopping, or 4–6 nights for a ski week; it has no airport or railway, so every trip starts with a bus or car ride over the Pyrenees.
Andorra is a small, mountainous co-principality in the Pyrenees between Spain and France. There is no airport and no railway: you arrive by coach or car from Barcelona or Toulouse, roughly three hours each way. It uses the euro but is outside the EU and outside the Schengen area, so there are border and customs checks going in and out. The traps are winter mountain roads, weekend queues at the customs posts, and customs limits on what you carry back.

Country rules
- Andorra is outside the EU and Schengen: you leave the Schengen area when you enter and re-enter it when you leave. If you need a Schengen visa, make sure it allows multiple entries; check the official rules for your passport.
- Duty-free prices come with strict allowances on tobacco, alcohol and other goods when you return to Spain or France; customs checks are routine.
- In winter, snow chains or winter tyres may be required on the mountain roads; check road conditions before you drive.
Etiquette
- Catalan is the official language; Spanish and French are widely spoken.
- Many shops close on Sunday afternoon outside the main shopping streets.
- Keep to marked trails: much of the high country is protected pasture.

Safety
