Bermuda is a British Overseas Territory in the North Atlantic, not the Caribbean, with its own entry rules. It is small, expensive and orderly, and visitors cannot rent normal cars, so transport is by bus, ferry, taxi, scooter or small electric two-seaters. Beach weather runs from about May to October; winter is cool and windy, and hurricanes (peak August–October) can still reach the island.

Safety

  • Traffic drives on the left; roads are narrow and winding, and scooter accidents are the main visitor injury.
  • Swim on beaches with lifeguards in summer; rip currents occur on the south shore.
  • Portuguese man-of-war can wash up in spring: do not touch blue, bubble-like creatures on the sand.
  • Hurricane season (Jun–Nov): follow local warnings and your airline; if a storm is forecast, leave early or shelter where your accommodation tells you.

Bermuda is about two hours by air from the US east coast and sits far from the Caribbean islands; there are no ferry links to them.
