The Republic of the Congo (Congo-Brazzaville) is a separate country from the DRC across the river, and much calmer, but distances are long and roads outside the main corridor are slow. Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire are linked by flights; the forest parks in the north are reached through lodge packages. Some governments advise against travel to parts of the Pool region, so check before any road trip.
