North Macedonia is a two-base country for most visitors: Skopje for the capital and Ohrid for the lake. Buses do the work; trains are few and slow. Ohrid is a summer town, busy in July and August and quiet in winter, while Skopje can be very hot in summer and smoggy in winter.
