  • Use bank ATMs and avoid independent exchange booths with small-print rates.

  • Taxis: use licensed cars with rates displayed on the window or book through an app; unmarked cars at airports overcharge.
  • Mountain weather changes fast in Rila and Pirin; carry layers and start early.
  • Petty theft and bag snatching occur in crowded places and on the coast in summer.
