The coast runs about 380 km north to south and splits at Cape Emine, where the Balkan Mountains reach the sea. North of it: Varna, Golden Sands, Balchik, and the cliff camping at Kamen Bryag. South: Burgas, Nesebar, Sunny Beach, Sozopol, then the quieter villages down to Rezovo on the Turkish border. Buses link the whole line; the Varna–Burgas train runs inland via Karnobat and is only useful between the two ends. Two bases, not five, is the workable plan.

Beaches are free and public, but some resort strips and beach bars charge for sunbeds and umbrellas — ask the price first.
Some coastal areas are restricted (military or private) without clear signs; if in doubt, turn back.
English is common in resorts and cities, less so in small villages — have place names written in Cyrillic.

Coast: Sea swimming is roughly June to September; July and August are the busiest and priciest. May and September give warm days with fewer people. Winter resorts close; many beach businesses shut from October.

Book beds for July–August weeks ahead. The sea is calm and shallow on most beaches; there is little surf.
