Burundi receives few tourists and has limited infrastructure: fuel shortages, few ATMs that take foreign cards and slow roads are normal. Some provinces carry advice against travel, especially near the borders with the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, so plan around one base with a local driver. The drier months (roughly June–August) make roads easier.
