Stanley fits in a day on foot, so the trips that go wrong are about access, not sights: a 55 km road transfer from Mount Pleasant that has to be booked, a small-plane seat to the outer islands that depends on wind, and a Volunteer Point 4x4 day that the tour operator decides on the morning. Four small areas cover the town; keep one bed and treat everything else as a day trip from it.

Slow mornings on the harbour front, a museum in the middle of the day, Gypsy Cove in the afternoon; the last morning ends with the bags already in the transfer to Mount Pleasant.

Go on the first morning, the easiest stop for jet lag; 30 minutes, free, and the whalebone arch outside is Stanley's best-known photo.
