Volunteer Point is the main king penguin colony on the islands and also has gentoo and Magellanic penguins, so it is the most complete penguin day trip from Stanley.
Tours are run by small operators; the desk at the Jetty Visitor Centre or your lodging can suggest who is running that week.
The route is a rough track across open moorland; it is a genuine full day, roughly 8 to 10 hours including the stop (check).
Bring lunch, a hot drink and a warm layer: nothing is sold at the colony.
The best season is roughly October to March; kings are present year-round but the track is worst in winter.
