Rules in force · 5
  • Qatar ↗Check entry rules for your passport on the official Visit Qatar and Hayya pages only; lookalike sites charge extra.
  • Qatar ↗Alcohol is served only in licensed hotel bars and restaurants; do not bring it into the country or drink in public.
  • Qatar ↗Dress modestly in public: shoulders and knees covered for everyone; swimwear only at beaches and hotel pools.
  • Qatar ↗In Ramadan, do not eat, drink or smoke in public during daylight.
  • Doha Municipality ↗Dune driving and the Inland Sea: use a licensed operator; do not drive off-road alone.

Overview

Doha is compact, air-conditioned and easy, but the rules and the weather are strict. The trips that go wrong land at midnight with a hotel that has no desk, walk the Corniche at noon in June, or arrive in Ramadan expecting daytime restaurants. Four clusters cover a first visit; a stopover of 2–3 nights is enough.

Fits

  • Stopovers
  • Museum and architecture trips
  • Winter city breaks

Does not fit

Clusters

Walking polygons, not wards

Evening cluster: the souq is at its best after 17:00 when the heat drops; morning is for the falcon souq and quiet lanes. Compact and flat, 90 minutes to half a day.

Morning cluster, October–April only: the museum from opening, then the Corniche and MIA Park; part of the box is water and the walk is fully in the sun.

Mornings at the museum and Katara, evenings in the souq, middays in the AC; the last day ends with the bags already in the car (October–April; in summer swap outdoors for malls).
