Overview
Dubai's sights are far apart: Downtown, the old Creek and the Marina are 25 to 45 minutes from each other, and every outdoor stretch is either a heat problem or a traffic problem. The trips that go wrong put two clusters in one morning, walk between towers at noon in summer, or arrive without knowing the rules on alcohol, dress and public behaviour. Four clusters cover a first visit; each needs its own half day, and the desert and Abu Dhabi are separate car days.

Go before 10:30 or after 16:30: 60 minutes through the lanes of wind-tower houses, galleries and courtyard cafés; opening times differ by venue and are not printed until verified.
Book a timed ticket on the official site for sunrise or late afternoon; allow 90 minutes door to door, arrive 20 minutes early through the mall, and skip it on a hazy day.
Eat
Breakfast or lunch in an Al Fahidi courtyard: Emirati dishes and tea, no alcohol; go before 10:30 or after 14:00, and book for weekends.

Old-town base, lower prices and the abra at the door: choose a hotel with a 24-hour desk and a car-accessible entrance, and expect a 25-minute ride to Downtown.
