Stanley
Stanley is a one-street harbour town of about 2,500 people: two nights are enough for the town, and the real plan is which day trip and which outer-island flight you can get in the weather.
Stanley fits in a day on foot, so the trips that go wrong are about access, not sights: a 55 km road transfer from Mount Pleasant that has to be booked, a small-plane seat to the outer islands that depends on wind, and a Volunteer Point 4x4 day that the tour operator decides on the morning. Four small areas cover the town; keep one bed and treat everything else as a day trip from it.

01Historic Dockyard Museum
Go in the rain or wind: about 90 minutes of island history, and the best indoor stop in town; check the opening hours for your day with the visitor centre.
02Christ Church Cathedral and Whalebone Arch
Go on the first morning, the easiest stop for jet lag; 30 minutes, free, and the whalebone arch outside is Stanley's best-known photo.

Language
English with a mix of British, Scottish and South American influence; some Spanish from Chilean and St Helenian residents. Local words come from Spanish gaucho days.
