Zambia's parks are big, remote and far from each other: the road from Lusaka to South Luangwa takes most of a day, and many bush camps close for the rainy season. Trips break when they try to link parks by road or arrive after camps have closed for the season. The rules that apply everywhere: fly between the falls and the parks, keep 3 or more nights per camp, and plan around the dry season (about May–October).

Safety

  • No driving after dark outside towns: animals, pedestrians and unlit vehicles share the road.
  • In unfenced camps, walk only with an escort after dark and follow your guide on walking safaris.
  • Lusaka: use a known taxi at night and keep valuables out of sight.
  • Emergency numbers vary: save your lodge's and operator's numbers and your insurer's evacuation line.
  • Health: see a travel clinic well before you fly about vaccinations and malaria prevention, and check whether a yellow-fever vaccination certificate is required for your passport and route, including transits.

Livingstone connects across the Victoria Falls Bridge to Zimbabwe and by road to Kasane (Botswana); Lusaka links north to Malawi and east Africa by air.
