Guam is an unincorporated territory of the United States, so US immigration rules apply, with a separate Guam–CNMI Visa Waiver Program for some nationalities; Guam runs its own customs declaration. The island is about 50 km long: Tumon Bay has the hotels, the south has the Chamorro villages and viewpoints. Typhoons are the main planning constraint, mostly from July to November.

Country rules
- US entry rules apply: visitors need a US visa, ESTA under the US Visa Waiver Program, or eligibility for the Guam–CNMI Visa Waiver Program. Check US Customs and Border Protection for your passport; the Guam–CNMI waiver does not allow onward travel to the rest of the US.
- Guam is outside the US customs territory: complete the Guam customs declaration on arrival and declare food, plants and animal products.
- Drive on the right, as in the mainland US; a valid foreign licence is accepted for short visits.
Etiquette
- Håfa adai is the Chamorro greeting.
- Respect latte stone sites and war memorials; do not climb on them or take anything.
- Ask permission before crossing private land to reach trails or beaches.

- Parade and island-wide celebrations; roads in Hagåtña close.

- Storms can close the airport and hotels shelter guests in place.

- Currency is the US dollar (USD). Cards are widely accepted; tipping follows US customs in restaurants, bars and taxis.

Safety
- Emergency: 911 for police, fire and ambulance.
- Rip currents and reef edges are the main beach risks; swim in Tumon Bay's sheltered water and heed flags.
- Typhoons (mainly Jul–Nov): follow Guam Homeland Security and hotel instructions; airports close during storms.
- Brown tree snakes are common but not dangerous to adults; wear shoes on trails and at night.
- Car break-ins happen at beach and trail parking; leave nothing in view.
Guam is the air hub of Micronesia: Saipan, Palau, Yap, Chuuk and Pohnpei are short flights, and East Asia is 3–4 hours away.
