  • Traffic drives on the left; roads are steep and winding with sharp bends and fast minibuses.
  • Use licensed taxis and agree the fare before the ride.
  • Hike the Pitons only with a guide and start early to avoid the heat.
  • Sun and sea: the sun is strong all year; watch for currents and rip tides on unpatrolled beaches, and swim where locals swim.
  • Hurricane season (Jun–Nov): follow local warnings and your airline; if a storm is forecast, leave early or shelter where your accommodation tells you.

Saint Lucia sits between Martinique (fast ferry) and St Vincent; Barbados is the nearest large air hub.
