There are no direct long-haul flights, so you connect via another island, and bad weather can cut roads and delay small planes. Safety

  • Traffic drives on the left; mountain roads are narrow, steep and blocked by landslides after heavy rain.
  • Flash floods: do not cross rising rivers or stay in gorges when rain starts upstream.
  • Medical facilities are limited: carry insurance with evacuation cover.
  • Hurricane season (Jun–Nov): follow local warnings and your airline; if a storm is forecast, leave early or shelter where your accommodation tells you.
