First trip: 3–4 nights on one island, one bed near an MRT line; arrival is the easiest in Asia, but the rules on vapes, drugs and litter are strict and enforced.
Singapore is a city-state, not a country tour. The trips that go wrong are not about distance: they are noon walks in 31°C humidity, an arrival card filled in late, and an item in a bag (a vape, chewing gum for sale, a drug) that is a crime here. Pick one bed near an MRT station, do outdoor sights before 10:30, and spend midday indoors.

Add a Sentosa or Pulau Ubin half-day only with a fourth night.
- Singapore is a short hop from Kuala Lumpur, Bali and Bangkok by air; fly out of Changi, not by overland bus, if you have a flight the same evening.
- Avoid the Formula 1 weekend (September/October) unless you booked a bed months ahead: rooms sell out and rates rise.
- Rain arrives in short storms most afternoons of the year; plan an indoor block from 13:00 to 16:00 rather than a fixed rain day.

Country rules
- Foreign visitors fill in the SG Arrival Card online on the official ICA site within 3 days before arrival; it is free.
- Vapes and e-cigarettes are illegal to bring in, buy or use; fines and prosecution apply. Leave them at home.
- No eating or drinking on the MRT, and no durian on public transport or in most hotels; fines apply.
Etiquette
- Take shoes off at homes, mosques, and Hindu temples; cover shoulders and knees at mosques, Buddhist and Hindu temples.
- Do not litter, spit, or smoke outside designated areas; fines are issued on the spot.
- Queue at taxi ranks, MRT doors and hawker stalls; tissue packets on a table mean the seat is taken.
- Tipping is not expected; many restaurants add a service charge.
- Chinese New Year (late Jan–Feb, moves yearly)
- Many shops and hawker stalls close for 2–3 days; Chinatown is crowded.

- Parade rehearsals close roads around Marina Bay; hotels fill.

- Cards and phone wallets work almost everywhere, including MRT gates (contactless bank card or an EZ-Link / SimplyGo card).
- Hawker centres are cheap but many stalls take cash or PayNow only: carry S$20 in small notes.

Safety
- Crime is low, but drug offences carry mandatory heavy penalties, including the death penalty for trafficking: never carry anything for another person.
- Heat and humidity are constant (about 26–33°C): drink water, plan an air-conditioned stop every 60–90 minutes.
- Cross at marked crossings; jaywalking near a crossing is an offence.
- Emergency: 999 police, 995 ambulance and fire.
- No country-wide travel advisory for visitors that this desk knows of; check your own government's travel advice before you book.
Singapore is the southern hub of the Southeast Asia corridor (planned): Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand are short flights away.
