Podgorica is Montenegro's capital and road and rail hub, sitting in the lowland between the coast and the mountains. It is a modern planned city, not a sightseeing destination: most travellers use it for one night before or after a flight, or as a base for Cetinje, Ostrog and Lake Skadar. Two nights is enough to see the centre and one day trip.

The centre is walkable: Trg Republike, Hercegovačka street, Stara Varoš and Skaline are within 20 minutes on foot. City buses cost €0.90 per ride, paid to the driver.
