Osh is Kyrgyzstan's second city and, by local tradition, one of Central Asia's oldest settlements at over 3,000 years. Sulaiman-Too, a sacred rocky outcrop rising straight out of the city with a small mosque and museum tunnelled into the rock, is UNESCO-listed, and the sprawling Jayma Bazaar along the river is one of the region's largest markets. It also functions as the practical starting point for the Pamir Highway south into Tajikistan.
