Demirköy is a small forest town in the Istranca Mountains of Kırklareli Province, in Eastern Thrace. It has no railway and, in recent years, no scheduled bus service, so a car is the practical way in. The draw is the Demirköy Foundry, a 15th-century ironworks whose metal went into the cannon that took Istanbul in 1453, plus the coast at İğneada and the Dupnisa Cave system to the west. Most travellers see it as a one-night stop or a day trip from the surrounding Thrace towns.

Getting around
You need your own vehicle. There is no railway and, as of recent years, no scheduled bus to Demirköy; check current services with the operator before relying on them. The D565 mountain highway from Pınarhisar is modern but winding — do not drive it at night, and expect landslide rubble or flood damage after heavy rain. The foundry is about 4 km east of town and walkable; the coast and the cave are not.

- The D565 mountain road is unsafe at night and after storms; drive it in daylight.
- Dupnisa Cave's wet lower cave floods and closes in winter; the upper caves stay open May–Nov.
- There is no border crossing to Bulgaria here; the nearest is a long detour.
- Several other Turkish villages are also called Demirköy — make sure you mean the one in Kırklareli Province.
