Demirköy

Demirköy is a small forest town in the Istranca Mountains of Kırklareli Province, in Eastern Thrace. It has no railway and, in recent years, no scheduled bus service, so a car is the practical way in. The draw is the Demirköy Foundry, a 15th-century ironworks whose metal went into the cannon that took Istanbul in 1453, plus the coast at İğneada and the Dupnisa Cave system to the west. Most travellers see it as a one-night stop or a day trip from the surrounding Thrace towns.
