The Marshall Islands is an independent country in free association with the United States; it uses the US dollar but sets its own entry rules. It is 29 low-lying coral atolls, with Majuro the capital and main arrival point on the United island-hopper. Flights are few, outer-island services are unreliable, and much of the visitor interest (Bikini wreck diving, wartime relics) requires advance arrangements.

Country rules
- Entry rules are the Marshall Islands' own, not US rules: check with RMI immigration or a Marshall Islands embassy for your passport before booking, and carry an onward ticket.
- Visits to outer atolls usually need permission from the local government or landowners, and some charge a visitor fee; arrange them through your hotel or the tourism office.
- Kwajalein Atoll hosts a US Army base: access is restricted to authorised people.
Etiquette
- Dress modestly: women should cover their thighs, and swimming in shorts and a T-shirt is common.
- Ask before photographing people and before walking onto family land.
- Sunday is for church and rest; most businesses close.

Safety

Majuro sits on the island-hopper between Honolulu and Guam, with Kosrae and Pohnpei to the west.
