Welkenraedt is a small Liège-province town on the Liège–Aachen line, 7 min by train from Eupen and about 30 min from Liège. It is officially French-speaking but sits in the German-speaking east, and its one heavyweight sight — the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery — is 5 km away and needs a car or taxi. Most travellers pass through; a half-day stop or one night is enough.
