Epen is a village of about 740 people in the Geul valley in South Limburg, part of the Gulpen-Wittem municipality, close to the Belgian border. It is a base for walking and cycling the surrounding hills, with timber-framed houses, two watermills and a shepherd's farm. There is no train station; bus line 57 links it to Gulpen and Maastricht.

Getting around

Walking and cycling are the main ways to see the village and the surrounding hills. Bus line 57 connects Epen with Gulpen and Maastricht. A car helps for the hamlets and the Belgian border, but rent one in Valkenburg, Maastricht or Heerlen. Electric bikes can be reserved at Wingbergermolen, Terpoorterweg 4.
