Prices and hours
Room rates in Ubud move with the season. High season is roughly July–August and the last week of December; low season is the wetter stretch from November to March, when rates fall and some places discount long stays. Nyepi, the Balinese day of silence, closes the airport and most businesses for 24 hours; check the date before booking flights.
Most guesthouses and hotels run 24-hour reception or a night guard, but small family homestays may close the gate around 22:00 and ask you to message ahead. Breakfast is usually included in the room rate at guesthouses and mid-range hotels. Laundry, scooter rental and day tours are sold along Jalan Monkey Forest, Jalan Hanoman and Jalan Raya Ubud; compare two or three before committing.

Getting there
Ubud has no airport. Most travellers arrive at Denpasar (DPS) and transfer by car; the drive takes about 1.5–2.5 hours depending on traffic, and a private transfer is the usual choice with luggage. Shared shuttles and ride-hailing apps also run the route, but some drivers will not pick up at the airport terminal, so arrange the first leg in advance.
Within Ubud, walking covers the centre. Scooter rental is the flexible option for the outer areas; only ride one if you hold the right licence and are insured, and wear a helmet. Ride-hailing apps work in most of Ubud but are restricted in some lanes and near markets, so expect to walk a short distance to the pickup point. Many hotels in Penestanan, Sanggingan and Sayan run a free shuttle into the centre a few times a day.
