Százhalombatta is a Danube-side town of about 18,600 people, 27 km southwest of Budapest, and its name means "one hundred tumuli" after the Iron Age burial mounds at its edge. The draw is archaeology: the Matrica Museum and the open-air Régészeti Park over a 4,000-year-old tell settlement. Two to three hours covers it; there is no local bus, so plan on walking or a taxi between the two sites.

Safety

A quiet, low-crime small town; the real issues are unlit riverside paths after dark, fast traffic on the main road, and summer heat with little shade at the archaeological park.
  • The archaeological park opens Apr–Oct only; outside that window the tumulus field is not visitable as a museum.
  • No local bus network: distances between sights are longer than they look on a map.
  • Some restaurants and the museum run short hours; check before you travel.
  • Danube ferry to Tököl runs roughly hourly, 06:00–20:00, and stops in bad weather.
