Overview
Bratislava's sights sit within about 1.5 km of each other on the Danube, so two days cover it and a third is spare. The trips that go wrong are the ones that drag suitcases over Old Town cobbles, climb the castle hill in midsummer heat, or arrive at a small restaurant on a Sunday evening that has closed early. Four walking clusters cover a first visit; Vienna and Devín Castle are trips away from one kept bed.

BTS to the Old Town: one taxi or Bolt car, 20–35 minutes; city bus 61 to the station is the cheap rung until about 22:00 — the risk is not the ride but a flat with no one to give you the key after midnight.
VIE to Bratislava: a direct bus is the cheap route (about 1 h) until the evening; after that a pre-booked transfer or taxi, 60–85 minutes, is the fixed plan — do not count on a late bus.

Scams and red flags
- Taxi drivers at the station or airport who refuse the meter or quote a fixed price far above the tariff: use Bolt or a company you booked.
- Restaurants in the main squares that add a cover charge or charge for bread: read the menu before you sit.
- Fake 'currency exchange' booths with poor rates: withdraw at a bank ATM instead.
- Overcharging for beer or a bill in a bar: check the itemised bill and the price list on entry.
