The Southern Gulf Islands sit in the Strait of Georgia between Vancouver Island and the BC mainland: about a dozen inhabited islands plus hundreds of islets. Ferries from Tsawwassen (Vancouver side) and Swartz Bay (Victoria side) reach Galiano, Mayne, Pender, Salt Spring and Saturna. Moving between islands can mean sailing back to Swartz Bay and out again, so pick one base and day-trip by water taxi or the inner-island ferry. Salt Spring is the largest and the only one with public transit; the rest reward bikes, kayaks and walking.
