Vancouver Island is 450 km long and one road runs down its east side. Victoria and Tofino sit at opposite corners, about 4.5 hours apart by car. Most first trips do both and skip the middle; the middle (Nanaimo, Parksville, Campbell River) is a stop, not a destination, unless you are heading north to Port Hardy or the West Coast Trail.

Victoria to Tofino is about 4.5 hours by car with no motorway; do not plan it as a morning hop.
Highway 4 west of Port Alberni has single-lane sections and closures after heavy rain; check DriveBC before leaving.
The west coast gets roughly twice the rain of Victoria; a dry forecast in Victoria says nothing about Tofino.
Sidney–Anacortes ferry service is suspended and is not expected back before 2030; do not build a route on it.
