South Gyeongsang (Gyeongsangnam-do, Gyeongnam) is the south-east corner of the mainland: a coast of islands and shipyards, a fortress town inland, and mountain temples west of the Nakdong River. Busan and Ulsan sit inside the region geographically but are run as separate cities. Trains and limousine buses link the towns, so pick one base and move once, not every night.

Busan and Ulsan are separate administrative cities, not part of Gyeongnam; tickets and hotel searches treat them separately.

Driving here has a reputation for being more aggressive than in Seoul; take the bus or train if you are unsure.

South coast (Busan, Tongyeong, Geoje): Rainy season (jangma) late June to mid-July; typhoons can hit Aug-Sep and stop ferries for a day.
