North Jeolla is South Korea's food province: Jeonju's hanok village and food streets, Namwon's gardens, the Gochang dolmens and tidal flats, Muju's ski slopes and the Baekje ruins at Iksan. It is not a first-trip region. Add it as 2 nights from Seoul by KTX (about 1 h 40) if you have already done Seoul and Busan, or as a food-and-hanok stop between Seoul and the south coast. Without a car, base in Jeonju and pick one day trip; the coast and the mountains are slow by bus.

Jeonju hanok village is a day-trip magnet on weekends; book beds ahead for Friday and Saturday.
Rural buses to Buan, Muju and Naejangsan thin out after early evening; check the last departure before you leave.

Jeonju and the plains: Hot, humid July–August; monsoon rain late June to July; cold, dry winters. Autumn is the clearest and busiest.
Mountains (Muju, Deogyusan): Cooler than the plains; snow and skiing December to early March; foliage peaks in October.

Best months are April–May and September–November. Naejangsan foliage in late October to early November draws the biggest crowds.
