South Jeolla is South Korea's green southwest: rice plains, tea terraces, tidal flats and almost 2,000 islands strung along a 6,100 km coast. It is warmer and wetter than the rest of the peninsula, and it is not a single destination — it is a spread of small towns 40–120 minutes apart. Sleep in Gwangju for the interior (Damyang, Naju, Hwasun) or in Yeosu for the coast and islands, and day-trip the rest. Two bases in four nights beats four one-night stops.
