Cegléd sits about 70 km southeast of Budapest on the Great Plain, between the Danube and the Tisza. It is a small city of roughly 36,000 people with one landmark that justifies the trip — the Reformed Great Church on Szabadság tér, a major local landmark and one of the largest Calvinist churches in the region — plus a handful of small museums and a thermal bath 2 km northwest of the centre. Most travellers pass through by train; a half-day or one night is enough.

Getting around

The centre is small and walkable: Szabadság tér, Kossuth tér and the museums are within 10 minutes of each other. The railway station and bus station sit together north of downtown, about 15–20 min on foot from Szabadság tér. The thermal bath is 2 km northwest — take a local bus or a taxi. Local buses run from the bus station on Mozdony utca; the cash desk keeps limited hours, so buy on board or check ahead.

Safety

Cegléd is a small city and standard Hungary advice applies: 112 for any emergency, 104 ambulance, 107 police, 105 fire. Summer heat on the Great Plain is the main practical risk — carry water and shade between sights.
  • The thermal bath is 2 km (1.2 mi) from the centre; there is no shuttle, so plan the bus or a taxi back.
  • Several small museums (Stove Museum, Old-timer Vehicle Exhibition, Sport Historical Collection) open only by booking or on one or two days a week — confirm before you go.
  • The tourist information office has shorter hours outside mid-June to August and is closed on Sundays for most of the year.
  • Summer on the Great Plain is hot and there is little shade between sights; carry water.
