DenpasarKota Denpasar
Two nights is enough: use Denpasar for the Bali Museum, Puputan square and Kereneng night market, then sleep in Kuta, Sanur or Ubud.
Denpasar is Bali's capital and largest city, not a beach resort: government offices, temples, museums and the island's best shopping sit 20–30 minutes from the airport strip. Most travellers pass through rather than sleep here. Give it one full day and two nights if you want the markets and museums without the resort markup, and base yourself in South Bali for the beach half of the trip.

Getting around
The centre around Jl Gajah Mada and Puputan square is walkable. Trans Metro Dewata city buses run five corridors and need an e-money card (Brizzi, Flazz, TapCash) or QR payment; routes show in Moovit and Google Maps. Metered taxis and ride-hailing apps are the practical way between districts. Bemo minibuses still exist but routes are tangled and stop by about 16:00 — a taxi is usually cheaper and faster.

Areas, not hotels: pick the one that fits your arrival time and plans.
Renon (south Denpasar)
Government quarter around the Bajra Sandhi monument; quieter, mid-range hotels, 15 min to Sanur.
Denpasar centre / Gajah Mada
Walkable to the Bali Museum, Puputan square and Badung market; business hotels, few tourist services.
Teuku Umar and Diponegoro
Malls, food courts and local restaurants; good value, needs a taxi or scooter for sights.
Nearby beach bases (Kuta, Sanur, Seminyak)
Most visitors sleep here and day-trip into Denpasar: 15–30 min by car.
