Denpasar is Bali's capital and largest city, not a beach resort: government offices, temples, museums and the island's best shopping sit 20–30 minutes from the airport strip. Most travellers pass through rather than sleep here. Give it one full day and two nights if you want the markets and museums without the resort markup, and base yourself in South Bali for the beach half of the trip.
