Major city · Canada
Lloydminster
One night, not two: see the border markers and Bud Miller park, then push on to Edmonton or Saskatoon, both about 2.5–3 h by car.
Lloydminster sits on the Alberta–Saskatchewan boundary at 110° west, the only Canadian city of its size run as one municipality across two provinces. It is a highway stop on the Yellowhead (Hwy 16) roughly halfway between Edmonton and Saskatoon, built on farming and oil refining. There is no public transit, so a car or a taxi is the practical way to move. Most travellers give it one night; the sights fill an afternoon.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- Canada ↗Visa-exempt travellers flying to or through Canada usually need an eTA; check your passport on the official Government of Canada site (canada.ca) and apply only there.
- Canada ↗A Parks Canada pass is needed to stop in national parks such as Banff and Jasper; some spots (for example Moraine Lake) are reached only by shuttle or tour, so book ahead.
- Canada ↗Keep well away from bears, elk and moose; carry bear spray on Rockies trails and follow trail closures.

Areas, not hotels: pick the one that fits your arrival time and plans.
Highway 16 strip (44 Street)
Motels and hotels along the main commercial road; easiest if you arrive by car and leave the next morning.
City centre / 50 Avenue
Walkable to the border markers, museum and a few restaurants; fewer beds than the highway strip.
West side near Bud Miller park
Quieter, close to the park and trails; needs a car for everything else.

Safety
- No public transit: plan on a car or taxi.
- Winter driving: Highway 16 can ice up and snow from October to April.
- The Alberta–Saskatchewan line runs down 50 Avenue; businesses follow Alberta sales tax and Alberta time, so posted hours and prices can differ from Saskatchewan norms.
- Summer heat and mosquitoes near the park lakes.
