- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- Canada ↗Visa-exempt travellers flying to or through Canada usually need an eTA; check your passport on the official Government of Canada site (canada.ca) and apply only there.
- Canada ↗A Parks Canada pass is needed to stop in national parks such as Banff and Jasper; some spots (for example Moraine Lake) are reached only by shuttle or tour, so book ahead.
- Canada ↗Keep well away from bears, elk and moose; carry bear spray on Rockies trails and follow trail closures.
- Prairies ↗A car is the default; outside the big three cities transit is thin and distances are long.
- Prairies ↗Prices are shown before sales tax; it is added at the till.
Saskatchewan is two provinces in one: flat grain fields and badlands history in the south, boreal forest and lakes in the north. Most visitors land at Saskatoon (YXE) or Regina (YQR), drive Highway 1 or Highway 16, and treat the cities as sleep bases with day trips out. Distances are long and buses are thin, so a rental car is the practical default. No daylight saving: clocks hold Central Standard Time all year, which matches Alberta in summer and Manitoba in winter.

Night sequences
- 4 nights
- Saskatoon 2 + Regina 2, with Moose Jaw or Batoche as a day trip
- 6 nights
- Saskatoon 2 + Prince Albert / north 2 + Regina 2
- Saskatoon, Regina and Prince Albert have rougher blocks near the centre; avoid them after dark.
- Winter driving is the real risk: blizzards, ice and long gaps between services. Many rural roads are gravel.
- Summer brings thunderstorms, hail and roughly 12–18 tornadoes a year, mostly June to August.
- Northern communities are far apart with limited services; fuel up and carry water.
