• Taroko Gorge access has been restricted since the 2024 earthquake and later storms: check the official Taroko site and the highway authority before travelling.
• Qixingtan has steep drop-offs and strong currents: stay on the pebbles, do not swim.
• Typhoons hit Jul–Sep; flights and coastal trains are cancelled at short notice.
• Scooter rental to foreigners is not universal: ask before you plan your day around it.
