Go for one full day from Peshkopi or a night in Fushë-Lurë: walk the lakes circuit (2–3 h) and climb to Kurora e Neshtes (2,051 m) if the track is dry; skip it in a normal car and skip it entirely after heavy rain.

Rules in force · 11Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window…Mine-suspected land still exists in Bosnia and Herzegovin…
- Europe ↗Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window, counted across all 29 Schengen states together — not per country; the Entry/Exit System now logs each crossing, so an overstay is detected automatically.
- Europe ↗On the first Schengen entry since EES began, non-EU travellers give four fingerprints and a face photo at the border instead of a passport stamp; there is nothing to apply for or pay in advance.
- Balkans ↗Mine-suspected land still exists in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in pockets of Croatia's former front line: outside towns keep to tarmac and waymarked paths, and treat red triangle signs and taped-off fields as absolute.
- Balkans ↗Serbia refuses onward entry to travellers who reached Kosovo from a third country and then try to cross straight into Serbia; route Kosovo–Serbia legs through North Macedonia or Montenegro, or start the loop in Serbia.
- Balkans ↗Hire cars need written permission from the rental company and valid insurance for every country on the line; Kosovo sells its own border insurance and some contracts exclude Albania, Kosovo or Bosnia outright.
- Albania ↗Albania is outside the EU and the Schengen area and sets its own entry rules; check the official requirements for your passport before you book.
- Albania ↗If you drive, carry your licence, rental papers and insurance proof, and expect unlit mountain roads and livestock after dark.
- Albania ↗Land borders with Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Greece are used by buses; allow for queues in summer and check that your rental contract allows crossing.
- Northeastern Albania ↗Carry cash (lek). Card readers are rare outside Kukës town and the bigger hotels; ATMs are scarce in Peshkopi and Bajram Curri.
- Northeastern Albania ↗Bring your passport for the day: the Kosovo and North Macedonia crossings are within an hour of parts of this region.
- Northeastern Albania ↗The SH5/R7 motorway from Prizren is fast; everything off it is single-lane mountain road with livestock. Drive only in daylight.

Lurë National Park protects a cluster of glacial lakes on the slopes of the Lurë Mountains in Dibër, northeastern Albania, between roughly 1,200 m and 1,500 m. It was established in 1966 and enlarged in 2018 by merging the former Zall-Gjocaj park, giving a boundary of about 202 km². The lakes — Great Lake, Lake of the Pines, Black Lake, Lake of Flowers and Cow's Lake — sit in beech and pine forest, with the ridge of Kurora e Neshtes (2,051 m) above them. There is no ticket gate and no visitor centre; the villages of Fushë-Lurë and Sina e Epërme inside the boundary are where you sleep and eat. The park is reached from Rrëshen on SH34, and the last stretch above Perlat is rough, which is why almost nobody comes and why a 4x4 or a local driver matters more here than any permit.

Why go
- Twelve glacial lakes sit in beech and pine forest between about 1,200 m and 1,500 m, an easy half-day on foot.
- The Lake of Flowers carries white water lilies in summer, the one sight people come for.
- Kurora e Neshtes (2,051 m) is a real mountain day with views to the coast on a clear morning.
- It is quiet: no ticket queue, no shuttle, no crowd, because almost nobody drives the last stretch of SH34.

Park rules
- Vehicles
- Only 4x4 or high-clearance cars on the last SH34 stretch; do not take a normal rental car past Perlat.
- Fires
- No open fires in the forest; the area lost large stands to illegal logging and fires after 1990.
- Litter
- Carry everything out; there is no collection in the villages.
- Wildlife
- Keep distance from livestock and dogs, store food inside, and do not feed anything.
- Drones
- Ask the guesthouse or village before flying; there is no published park rule (check).check

Time out
Finding the local time zone…
Times are local to the spot (zone loading). The half-hour margin is our rule of thumb, not an official figure; light fades earlier in forest or under cloud. Carry a headlamp on any route that could run late.
Accessibility
- The lakes area is grass and dirt track; a sturdy car can reach the shore, but there are no paved paths or facilities.
- The lakes circuit is not step-free and is unsuitable for wheelchairs or strollers.
- Peshkopi and Fushë-Lurë have basic services only; plan medical needs for Tirana or Shkodër.
Visiting lightly
- Pay guesthouses and guides in cash locally; the villages carry the cost of the park's upkeep.
- Buy honey, dairy and medicinal herbs from village producers rather than roadside resellers.
- Stay on existing tracks around the lakes; the beech forest is still recovering from the logging of the 1990s.
- Take rubbish back to Peshkopi or Rrëshen; there is no collection at the lakes.
Questions people ask
How much does it cost to enter Lurë National Park?
Nothing at the time of writing: there is no ticket gate and no published entry fee. Your costs are transport, food and a room. Guesthouse rooms run about 3,000–6,000 lek a night and a local guide about 4,000–8,000 lek a day (2026 estimate, check).
What are the best hikes in Lurë National Park?
The lakes circuit linking Great Lake, Lake of the Pines, Black Lake and Lake of Flowers takes 2–3 hours on easy forest tracks. The harder day is Kurora e Neshtes at 2,051 m via Bruci Lake, 5–7 hours with a steady climb and no marked route in places.
When is the best time to visit Lurë National Park?
June to September for dry tracks and the water lilies, with September the quietest good month. May and October work if you accept mud and cold nights. November to April the access road and the ridge are often under snow.
Can I visit Lurë National Park without a 4x4?
You can reach the villages on the paved part of SH34, but the last stretch above Perlat is rough and partly unpaved. A normal rental car risks damage; hire a 4x4 or take a local driver from Rrëshen or Peshkopi.
Is there anywhere to stay inside the park?
Yes. Fushë-Lurë and Sina e Epërme have guesthouses and small hotels, and camping around the lakes is tolerated. Peshkopi, about 25 km east, is the fallback with more rooms.
How do I get to Lurë National Park from Tirana?
Drive SH1 north to Milot, take the A1 to Rrëshen, then SH30 and SH34 towards Fushë-Lurë. Allow 3–4 hours and drive the last section in daylight.
