Pukë is a small highland town at 838 m, one of Albania's highest, about 150 km from Tirana. It works as a cool-weather stop on the SH5 road north, with cheese, honey and short walks, not as a base for a long stay. Most travellers pass through in a few hours or sleep one night.

The town is small enough to walk. For Munella, Tërbuni, Koman lake or the villages you need a car, a taxi or a local driver; buses run to Tirana and Shkodër, not to the trailheads.

Low street crime; the real risks are mountain roads, winter ice, unmarked trails and limited medical care. Carry cash and don't drive the passes after dark.
