Militello in Val di Catania is one of the eight UNESCO-listed Late Baroque Towns of the Val di Noto, in the Iblei foothills about 40 km from Catania. It is a small working town of roughly 7,300 people with a dense cluster of 17th- and 18th-century churches, not a resort. Most travellers see it as a half-day between Catania and Caltagirone, or as a quiet overnight if they want the baroque towns without the crowds of Noto and Ragusa.

Getting around

The historic centre is small and walkable in 15–20 minutes end to end; expect steep lanes and stairs between the lower town and the upper churches. A car helps for the surrounding baroque towns and the SS385/SS194 junctions, but parking inside the centre is limited. Buses (Interbus/Etna Trasporti/Segesta) link Catania's Via Archimede to Militello in about 1 h 5 min; the train station sits on the Catania–Caltagirone–Gela line, a walk or short taxi from the centre.

A quiet inland town with low street crime; the real risks are heat in summer, uneven lanes and stairs, and thin transport after mid-afternoon. Keep to lit streets at night and confirm your return bus or train.
