Gili Meno
Stay 2–3 nights if you want quiet beaches and turtles; skip it if you need nightlife, ATMs that work or fast Wi-Fi.
Gili Meno is the smallest and quietest of the three Gili Islands off Lombok, with about 400 residents, no motor vehicles and a coastal path you can walk in roughly 90 minutes. Beaches are calmer and less built-up than on Gili Trawangan, but facilities are thin: two ATMs that sometimes fail, slow service and limited nightlife. Most travellers come for two or three nights of snorkelling, diving and doing very little.

Getting around
Walk. The coastal path circles the island in about 90 minutes at an easy pace. Horse carts (cidomo) carry bags and people from the boat landing; posted prices at the landing run from about Rp80,000 for a short local trip to Rp175,000 across the island. There are no cars or scooters for rent.

Day-trips
Gili Trawangan
goDoor to door: About 30–60 min
Island-hopping boat or public boat via Bangsal
Go for ATMs, nightlife and a wider choice of restaurants; return the same day only if you catch the afternoon boat.
Gili Air
goDoor to door: About 30 min
Island-hopping boat, about 20 min
Slightly livelier than Meno with more cafés; a half-day is enough.
Lombok (Senggigi or Bangsal)
cautionDoor to door: 1.5–3 h
Public or charter boat to Bangsal, then road transfer
Doable but eats the day; better as a transfer than a day trip.

Areas, not hotels: pick the one that fits your arrival time and plans.
South and east coast near the boat landing
Most cafés, dive shops and hotels; convenient but the busiest strip on the island.
West coast
Sunset side, quieter, close to good snorkelling near the old jetty; fewer places to eat.
Inland village (north half)
Cheapest huts and local warungs; no sea view, 5–10 min walk to any beach.

Watch out
Safety
- Boat crossings stop in the late afternoon, well before dark: plan arrivals for the morning.
- You wade through shallow water to disembark: wear sandals or go barefoot, and bag cameras and phones.
- The two ATMs south of the boat landing sometimes fail; bring enough rupiah from Lombok or Bali.
- Bangsal harbour has persistent touts: buy only from the official Koperasi ticket office.
- Public boats can be overloaded; if a boat looks unsafe, wait for the next one.
- Snorkelling off the east coast crosses boat traffic: stay close to shore and keep visible.

Cash is king here: bring rupiah from Bali or Lombok, and treat the two island ATMs as a bonus, not a plan.
