Gili Meno
Stay 2–3 nights if you want quiet beaches and turtles; skip it if you need nightlife, ATMs that work or fast Wi-Fi.
Gili Meno is the smallest and quietest of the three Gili Islands off Lombok, with about 400 residents, no motor vehicles and a coastal path you can walk in roughly 90 minutes. Beaches are calmer and less built-up than on Gili Trawangan, but facilities are thin: two ATMs that sometimes fail, slow service and limited nightlife. Most travellers come for two or three nights of snorkelling, diving and doing very little.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Light handshake then hand to chest; smile; avoid: Firm grips
- Left hand: Give and receive with the right; avoid: Passing anything with the left
- Temples: Sarong and sash; step around offerings; avoid: Standing higher than priests
- Keeping calm: Patience; indirect requests; avoid: Anger in public
- Pointing: Thumb; avoid: Index finger
Scams and watch-outs
- Boat crossings stop in the late afternoon, well before dark: plan arrivals for the morning.
- You wade through shallow water to disembark: wear sandals or go barefoot, and bag cameras and phones.
- The two ATMs south of the boat landing sometimes fail; bring enough rupiah from Lombok or Bali.
- Bangsal harbour has persistent touts: buy only from the official Koperasi ticket office.
- Public boats can be overloaded; if a boat looks unsafe, wait for the next one.
- Snorkelling off the east coast crosses boat traffic: stay close to shore and keep visible.
Very low crime; the real risks are boat safety, sun and dehydration, coral cuts, and stomach trouble from fish that has sat out too long. There is no hospital on the island — serious cases go to Lombok or Bali.

No embassies on the island; most are in Jakarta with consulates in Bali (Denpasar). Check your own country's list before you travel.
Cash is king here: bring rupiah from Bali or Lombok, and treat the two island ATMs as a bonus, not a plan.
