Fuding is a county-level city in Ningde, at Fujian's northern edge, 30 min by high-speed rail from Wenzhou and about 1.5 h from Fuzhou. It is known for Taimu Mountain's granite peaks and caves, for white tea grown on the surrounding hills, and for the ferry to Yushan Island. Sights sit outside the city, so plan transport before you arrive.

Getting around

City buses cost ¥1–2 and are the main way around; bus No. 7 links the railway station and the South Bus Station, and bus No. 9 runs to the Taimu Mountain scenic area. Shared public bikes cost about ¥2 per 10 minutes. Taxis start at ¥11 for the first 4 km, with a night surcharge after 23:30; drivers change shifts roughly 16:30–18:00, when taxis are hard to find. Agree the fare before a long or rainy ride.

Fuding is a low-crime small city; the real risks are mountain paths and wet rocks at Taimu Mountain, ferry timetables that change with weather and tides, and taxi fares quoted off-meter in rain or at rush hour.
  • Taimu Mountain and Yushan Island are outside the city: check the last bus or ferry back before you set out.
  • Yushan Island ferries run mainly in the morning with afternoon returns, and timetables shift with weather and tides.
  • Some taxi drivers quote off-meter fares in rain or at rush hour; confirm the price first.
  • English is limited outside hotels and universities; keep your address in Chinese characters.
  • July and August bring high heat and typhoon risk on the coast; check forecasts before island or mountain days.
