Base on the coast, not in Ponda town: use it as a half-day or full-day temple-and-spice-farm loop from Panaji or Margao, 30–60 min by road.
Ponda is inland Goa: a busy market town ringed by green villages, Hindu temple complexes resettled here in the Portuguese era, and working spice farms. It is 28–29 km from Panaji and 17 km from Margao, so it works as a day trip from the beach belt. Sleep here only if you want early temple starts or a farm stay.

Safety
- Temple and mosque visits: cover shoulders and knees, remove shoes, and ask before photographing worshippers.
- Dress and behaviour that pass on the coast may draw attention inland; keep it modest.
- English is less common in Ponda than on the beach belt; a few Konkani or Hindi phrases help.
- Spice-farm tours, timings and lunch prices vary by farm: confirm by phone or on the farm's own page before you drive out.
