Ponda is inland Goa: a busy market town ringed by green villages, Hindu temple complexes resettled here in the Portuguese era, and working spice farms. It is 28–29 km from Panaji and 17 km from Margao, so it works as a day trip from the beach belt. Sleep here only if you want early temple starts or a farm stay.

- Monsoon (Jun–Sep) closes some plantation visits and makes village roads rough.
Ponda is a low-crime inland town; the real issues are traffic on NH 4A, unlit village roads after dark, and heat in April–May. Solo women report more staring than on the coast — cover up at temples and keep to lit streets at night.
